Lab Safety Station Lab: Write It

Write It: Lab Safety Scenarios

Below are three lab safety scenarios. Explain what should be done differently for each scenario in the Write It section of your Station Lab worksheet.

Question 1:

During a chemistry experiment, a student carefully pours and unknown solution from a test tube into a beaker. Another student sneaks up behind them and surprises their friend. The student accidentally drops the beaker on the floor, and pieces of glass land on their sandaled feet.

Explain what should have been done differently to avoid this accident in the Write It section of your Station Lab.

Question 2:

A student is in the middle of a science experiment where they have to boil a solution for a long time. When the student gets bored and wanders over to talk with their friends, a sweatshirt they left on the desk near the hot plate catches fire.

Explain what should have been done differently to avoid this accident in the Write It section of your Station Lab.

Question 3:

A student places a test tube on the counter and not in the test tube rack. The test rolls off the counter and into the sink where it breaks. The student picks up the pieces with one hand and places them in the other hand then throws them away in the garbage.

What should have happened differently in this scenario? Explain in the Write It section of your Station Lab.
