Teacher Notes (READ FIRST)
DRC BEACON has created an instructional strategies document to support teachers. The full document for this grade level is attached on the next page. The instructional strategies in this document may be used by educators to assist students to become independent learners as they build toward mastery of college- and career ready standards. They are designed to help educators engage their students in exploring, explaining, and expanding their understanding of the content standards.
Please utilize this instructional strategies document when planning for instruction. The instructional strategies are organized by standard, and each standard’s instructional strategies include a statement of the content standard, supporting standards, instructional supports, clarifications, enrichment, key terms, and resources. The mini assessments have been pulled out and linked on separate pages for quick access. A teacher can choose how and when to utilize the mini assessments.
The information for each standard follows this outline:
Standard
The content standard is the statement from the college- and career-ready standards that defines what all students should know and be able to do at the conclusion of a given grade level or course. Content standards contain minimum required content and complete the phrase “Students will ______.”
Supporting Standards
The supporting standards are standards that support the content standard and allow educators to incorporate multiple standards into their instruction.
Each grade-level content standard integrates, builds on, and leads to broader, more comprehensive skills. The standards collectively guide educators in preparing students with the content and skills students should know by the end of high school.
Instructional Supports
The instructional supports provide educators with ideas for how to approach the standard during instruction. The instructional supports may provide ideas for activities that can be used during instruction to help students master the standard.
Clarifications
Clarifications provide further guidance to help educators more closely align lessons and activities with the standard.
Enrichment
Enrichment provides further resources or ideas to assist educators in their planning of instruction for the standard.
Professional development provides links to outside resources that can assist educators in better understanding the standard. These professional development resources are not meant to be used directly in the classroom or to be shown to students but instead are provided for educators’ own enrichment and professional development.
Connections to assessment show educators how an assessment item for the standard might be phrased. These are representative of questions on assessments but are not a comprehensive listing of all types. Educators and students can access sample items through the Online Tools Training portals:

Key Terms
Key terms should be incorporated into instruction by educators and used by students.
Resources
Outside resources are included that are aligned to the standard and may provide additional instructional support to educators and students. Since state, district, and school guidelines on what is appropriate for classroom use may differ, educators are encouraged to consult those guidelines and consider the needs and sensitivities of their students before incorporating any outside resources into instruction.
