Teaching foundational literacy skills and fostering a love of reading increases the likelihood of a student reading on grade level at the end of third grade. As a district, we want our students to read every day, across the content areas and to spend at least 20 minutes per day reading a book of choice. As a part of the RCSS Literacy Initiative, we are proud to announce a partnership with the Brian Jordan Foundation to launch the Brian Jordan Reading Challenge for all first and second-grade students for the 2023-2024 school year.

April Calendar of Events

January Calendar of Events

Schools should record their winners on this form no later than Thursday, January 4th.
Banners for the top class in each school will be delivered to your school on Thursday, January 4th.
Plan for Brian Jordan Visit #2. Click here for the Visit Schedule
- In preparation for the visit:
  - Identify class and student winners
  - Prepare certificates to present to students.
  - Plan location for visit that can provide a place for student autographs and the kickball game
  - Inform teachers of schedule
  - Communicate to parents of winners
On the day of the school visit Brian Jordan will:
- - Have 30 minutes at each school.
  - Present the banner to the top class.
  - Autograph the book for each classes' top reader.
  - Play a brief kickball game with the top class.
