Tips we have learned from our visits
Here some important things that we learned that will be important for you as you prepare for your visit next week:
- Are lunches covered with school nutrition? Teachers should also plan to bring their lunch that day. There is no food delivery to the JA Center.
- With the buses needing to leave so soon after intake, where can the students report first thing in the morning to prepare to leave as quickly as possible? We want to ensure the bus departs as close to 9:30 as possible.
- Touchbase with the JA Lead teacher to ensure that students know their jobs before leaving for the center.
- Remind the JA contact that the morning of the visits that they will need to respond to the student and adult count text from Tfifany Palmer.
- Make sure that an administrator is planning on attending the visit with the students.
- Volunteers are different than chaperones and should report to the JA center for training the morning of their visit. Teachers from the school will be adequate for chaperoning.
- An administrator should drive to the JA center if possible ahead of the buses to greet the students when they arrive and to have a car onsite if needed.

Chaperones vs Volunteers
For school visits dates:
-
School based personnel. (Teachers, administrators, counselors, etc) should accompany students.
-
Enough school staff should accompany students on the visit to provide supervision and assistance.
-
An administrator should be present during each visit
-
We need the schools to help us recruit parent volunteers (see communication sent from Tfifany Palmer, Education Manager and Shanee White, Director of Volunteerism which is sent to your Lead Junior Achievement teacher about 8 weeks prior to your visit).
Parent Volunteers:
-
Parents and community members can participate in this experience with their students. They are vital to the success of the visit!
-
They should register to volunteer using the link provided in the correspondence from the school. (received from JA about 8 weeks prior to your visit)
-
They will report to the JA center the morning of the visit for orientation (not to the child's school). They should not bring any other children with them to participate.
-
They will be able to spend the day with students and be provided lunch by Junior Achievement.
-
Parents do not have to have a level 3 volunteer card to participate as a volunteer with Junior Achievement.
