Below 5th percentile then you are considered underweight

Sleep Apnea – obstructed or decreased air passages

Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Blood glucose levels become elevated

Pancreas produces too little insulin to convert to glucose

Insulin – hormone produced by the pancreas to convert glucose

Type 1 Diabetes

A genetic disorder that often shows up early in life

Your immune system is attacking and destroying the insulin-producing cells in your pancreas.

Type 2 Diabetes

Largely diet-related and develops over time

Body Image – way you see yourself

Eating Disorders

psychological illnesses that cause people to undereating, overeating, or practice other dangerous nutrition-related behaviors.

Wrongly view themselves as too heavy, too thin, or not bulky enough.

Four Types:  Anorexia Nervosa Bulimia Nervosa Binge Eating Bigorexia

Anorexia

Restrict his or her caloric intake

More females than males

Fear of becoming overweight or obese.

Common Indicators:  Sudden weight loss, Lying about eating, Denying being hungry, Consuming minimal foods, Exercise addiction, Preoccupation with food, calories

Bulimia

Overeat then force themselves to purge afterward

Binging and purging

Has little to do with weight but psychological issues.

Common Indicators:  MalnutritionExcessive weight concerns, Large food consumption with no weight gain, Use laxatives/diuretics, Excessive exercise

Binge Eating

Eat more rapidly than normal until you cannot eat anymore

Do not purgeHave poor body image

Often feel guilty, lack of control, depression, frustration

Eating habits can become addictive

Bigorexia

Reverse Anorexia

Falsely believe that you are underweight or undersized

More common in males

Closely associated with exercise addiction

Symptoms: Lifting excessive amounts of weight, Using performance enhancing supplements, Checking their appearance, Feel ashamed to show body in public
