Creating an Observer Account

Parents have the ability to view their students’ course content (assignment due dates, assignments, course modules, etc.) by creating a Canvas “Observer” account that is linked to their student(s) account. It is possible and recommended to follow all of your students under a single Observer sign-in. 

To get started you must first have the following:

• To create an account and link to your student, your student must first log in to Canvas https://rcboe.instructure.com on a computer (not a mobile device) with their Richmond County email and password. 
• Once logged in, the student will navigate to Account in the top left menu and then click on Settings.  From settings, you will click on the Pair with an Observer button on the right side to generate a pairing code to share with the parent who is creating an Observer account (or who will be adding the student to an existing Observer account.)  To view more information about a Pairing Code, click here. • The student must be enrolled in courses before you can sign up to observe the student. 

Parents will log into a slightly different address	https://rcboe.instructure.com/login/canvas
Click on the link that states “Parent of a Canvas User?  Click Here for an Account.”
Fill out the form with your name, email address, and add a password with at least 8 characters.  Then, enter the pairing code from your student’s account.    Once you have filled out the form completely, click on Start Participating.

NOTE: The Observer account will only link to the student who is attached to the pairing code you used during account registration.
