Project: Latin All Around Us

Students will explore Latin used in English by researching Latin phrases, their meanings and use in English.

Students will choose an area of English where Latin is used. Students will find words/phrases in Latin, translate them, explain their use and give examples. The learning target is for students to be able to explain common Latin phrases and use them in English. We will work on this project during the week and present on Thursday and Friday. Students will complete Word Study V on pages 144 and 145. The learning target is for students to see the use of common suffixes in Latin and how they are used in English.

 

Opening:  Review of the 3 tenses, imperatives and infinitives

Lesson: Students will be introduced to the project and will work on the word study.

Closing: Students will share one word or phrase that they have learned today.
