Opening :

Article Review: Students will review the article discussed in class yesterday. Students will review key points. 

*Students will use this time to review their tree map, tracing the argument. 

Work Session: 

*As the week progress students will be introduced to various sources they will use within their argumentative essay arguing weather graffiti is art or vandalism. Students will work within Revision Assistant. 

Students will close read the article "Graffiti as Vandalism" 

As students close read they will identify key vocabulary. These terms will assist students in better comprehending the text. 

Students will also summarize each paragraph and annotate key points as they read each paragraph. 

Trace the argument: Article Tree Map

After students have read the article "Graffiti as Art", they will create a tree map tracing the argument. Students will be tasked with identifying the argument with reasons and evidence. 

Article Comparison : Students will compare and contrast the articles "Graffiti as Art" and "Graffiti as Vandalism" As students analyze both articles for their Venn diagram. They will examine the following questions. 

1. What persuasive techniques did the author used to explain their argument? Explain.

2. Did the author provide substantial evidence? Explain.

3. Explain the Central Idea of the text. 

4. Identify key points from both arguments.  

Closing:

Students will partner with their neighbors to discuss their findings. 

Groups will share out with the class.
